I imagine that it’s my own thwarted longing for physical perfection that draws me to store window mannequins and tableaux. The fantasy people, and fantasy scenarios, provide all the drama and glamour missing from quotidian existence. We create monuments to ourselves, glorifying our most-wanted contours and lifestyles, and leaving out anything else. Advertising, sure. But the yearning for flawless looks and an enviable lifestyle keeps us looking, endlessly, past the glass barrier.
